BACKGROUND

Over the past two years, housing choice throughout Monroe County has become a significant priority. With unprecedented cooperation, the County, City and Towns of Greece and Irondequoit, the Rochester Housing Authority, banks, Realtors, advocates and non-profit agencies have become partners in helping create affordable housing opportunities throughout our county.

MISSION

The Community Choice Advisory Committee is an appointed group which monitors and promotes the implementation of county-wide Housing Choice strategies in order to increase housing choice opportunities throughout the community of Monroe.

STRUCTURE

The Team will be comprised of 15 members appointed for two year terms with a one term renewal option.  All efforts will be made to ensure a diversity of members and the inclusion of persons afforded protection by federal and/or state anti-discrimination laws. 

Staff support for the Committee will be provided through a contract funded by the County, City, towns of Greece and Irondequoit and the Rochester Housing Authority.

PRIMARY ACTIVITIES

The Housing Choice Advisory Committee will conduct the following activities:

• Monitor the status of housing choice strategy implementation
• Help secure broad community support for fair housing and affordable housing choice.
• Prepare and distribute a yearly report on plan implementation status and accomplishments.
