Where you live could determine your opportunities in life.

Everyone is entitled to have an equal chance to live, work and go to school where they choose. No one should be denied housing opportunities because of their race, because of their ethnicity, because of their national origin, because of their sex or marital status, or because of their religion. Nor should they be denied housing just because they happen to have a disability, or because they have children in their household. Fair Housing laws are intended to protect all of us from unlawful discrimination.

Unfortunately, the history of equal housing choice is not unblemished. At one time or another each of the groups described above has been isolated or treated differently. Moreover, progress in addressing these inequities doesn't happen on its own. It takes planning and dedicated effort. Accordingly, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) asks that all communities 1) look at the barriers to fair housing in their localities, 2) come up with plans to eliminate the barriers within their control, and 3) take steps to reduce those barriers that are beyond their immediate control.

To that end, our City, County and towns have developed a regional fair housing plan. It's called the "Community Choice Action Plan" (CCAP), and it has become a model for the nation. One of the key strategies in our plan is to involve the entire community in efforts to promote equal housing choice. This web site is designed to help make that part of the plan become a reality.
